what are the factors that determines who gets what and length of stay waiting for a wheelchair. How do you Prioritize wheelchair assessment and delivery

Who gets what? This can only be determined after a person has been referred, thoroughly examined and assessed in person by a (hopefully) team of skilled seating specialists and a technician. this team of professionals will then collaborate and decide the specific type of wheelchair needed as well as any attachments required. Waiting for the appropriate wheelchair depends upon availability or time to order and receive the equipment. Priority of assessment and delivery should be on a first come, first served basis as much as circumstances permit.

Determining who gets what and on what timeline depends on an appropriate referral and a through assessment by a trained clinician. Based on the assessment of the patient needs and disability, the most appropriate wheelchair with the correct size and fit can be determined. When the wheelchair is received depends on availability of the appropriate wheelchair and when the assessment was completed. Waiting longer for the wheelchair that best fits the individual is more important than simply providing a wheelchair that is available but not appropriate.
